The weather was calm and the sky cloudy. I was fishing d’Urville Island, using my new 80g Shimano Sunset Crab Lucanus that I bought at The Hutchwilco NZ Boat Show in May this year. Coming up to this trip, I had been researching and figuring out how to work this lure, to make sure I was fishing it properly.
Ten minutes of working the lure and I felt I was in the groove. The research paid off, as a fish hit the lure with a thud and, straight away, ran. Line melted off the spool so I figured I was into something big. It wasn’t coming easily and tested me for a good 15 minutes.
Finally, I felt it tire and worked it to the surface. It was my biggest snapper so far.
Overall, I was stoked with the fish and really happy how everything went. An awesome day and one of my best.
Can’t wait to get back out on the water again.
