Fishing has always been more than just a hobby for me; it’s a passion that brings me closer to nature and offers a sense of adventure. However, my true love lies in deep sea fishing. In the past couple of years, I’ve been fortunate enough to fish out of Waihau Bay, where we’ve caught some impressive fish, including a double-tagged southern bluefin tuna with the Wildbill crew.
My fishing journey began on the waters around the Kapiti Coast and the Trench, where I joined friends on their boats for weekend trips. These early experiences were filled with excitement and learning. I remember the thrill of my first catch and the camaraderie shared with fellow fishers. Each trip taught me something new, from baiting hooks to reading the water for signs of fish.
Deepsea fishing is a whole different ball game. The thrill of dropping a line into the deep blue and waiting for a bite is unmatched. My Wild Blue (https://www.wildbluetackle.com) gear has been a reliable companion on these adventures, helping me reel in some decent-sized fish. Waihau Bay has become one of my favourite fishing spots. The waters there are teeming with life, and I’ve had the pleasure of catching a variety of fish, from snapper to kingfish. One memorable trip involved battling a hefty southern blue fin that put up quite a fight. The sense of accomplishment when I finally reeled it in was indescribable. Another highlight was catching a double-tagged southern bluefin tuna.
