When you live in Golden Bay there is no need to go on holiday. Everything you need or want is on your doorstep. Kian Lamason has fallen in love with the sea and can frequently be spotted out there, either on his kayak or Dad’s yacht. His favourite pastime is fishing. If not from a craft, he will spend hours dangling a line off the breakwater where he usually lands a variety of fish, including snapper.
His recent venture took him by kayak just a short distance off the sandy beach and, bingo—an almighty tug on his line and the battle commenced. Whatever it was, it put a good bend in the rod and knew how to put up a fight. The action through the line to the rod was different than he’d previously encountered and more than anything, he wanted this fish on board. Having managed to keep his balance during the struggle, he loaded his weird looking catch aboard and made it safely back to the beach.
His reference book helped identify his catch—his first ever JOHN DORY—a beauty, measuring 65cm long.
