Solar powered outing

You can’t beat a bloody beautiful day on the river, particularly when at the mouth of the mighty Clutha in Southland.

Over the last summer holidays, Swade BakerSmith, Riria Smith , Samuel Norman and Cy MartinSmith headed there from Milton with the aim of catching sea run kahawai.

The sun and the fishing gods were shining that day, as the kids flicked their silver hex wobblers out into the current and set about kicking the lures into action with a steady retrieve. It was a great adventure and excitement all round when the kahawai hit with a flurry and put the kid’s skills to the test. They were using Diana D Shock spin sets with 6lb braid, so a bit of finesse was required.

The kids had a ball, the fish less so, and we all returned to Milton a little early but with batteries charged from a solar powered outing!
