Bruce Stringer presents the trophy for the heaviest fish to Craig Thin

Craig Thin followed up his 2022 effort of seven prizes with another top performance in the 2023 Mokihinui Fishing Competition, claiming four first prizes.

His winning prizes were for the heaviest fish, an 11.78kg greyboy shark, heaviest kahawai of 2.17kg, heaviest fish on day five and heaviest snapper on day seven.

Heaviest snapper trophy went to Shannon Busch

Large swells and strong currents posed problems for anglers on some days but overall, 164 fish were weighed in.

The heaviest snapper went to Shannon Busch with a 4.9kg catch. Steve Mumm was the top trout fisher with a 1.84kg brown. Suzi Van Zuylen was the winning lady angler, landing a 4.7kg greyboy shark. Junior fisher Hans Busch won his section with a 3.57kg snapper and Aroha’s rig of 98mm was the longest fish weighed in.

In the kontiki section, Joe Brunner pulled in the biggest fish, a 5.11 kg rig and Mike Spillane wound in the heaviest snapper of 6.13kg. The special 50th Anniversary draw of $400 was won by Sos Morgan, a lifetime supporter of the Mokihinui Fishing Competition.
